can trinxet
Adaptive reuse of a modernist industrial precinct from 1906Can Trinxet was formed by the union of the Filats Trinxet Factory, now disappeared, and the Can Gras Factory, built between 1906 and 1910 by architect Modest Feu i Estrada in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. It became a key industrial site in the early 20th century, focused on cotton yarn and fabric production, and employed hundreds of workers, most of them women. In the 1960s, economic decline led to its gradual fragmentation and the partial demolition of the original structures. Although some buildings were protected under the 1976 Metropolitan General Plan (PGM), most were later de-listed and demolished in 2000 to allow for residential development, preserving only part of the Can Gras complex.
The proposal adopts a clear and understated approach, prioritising the recovery of the architectural quality of the historic façades, preserving their integrity, and introducing sustainable principles in both the design of the interior spaces and the public realm that connects them.
