is a small practice that operates between architecture, research and academia. driven by an interest in existing structures and their potential for transformation, the office explores what preservation means today and how reuse can transcend purely ecological motivations and generate new architectural discourses. the office was founded in 2022 by laura solsona and eduard fernàndez.

journal for practice-based research in architecture
practices in research is an online, open access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal dedicated to practice-based research in architecture, developed within the architecture in practice research platform. the journal explores how architectural practice can operate as a form of research in itself, where design, construction, writing, and visual narration function as interconnected modes of inquiry.
issue no.5, demolitions and deconstructions, published in december 2024, focuses on the role of demolition, partial removal, and deconstruction within contemporary practices of reuse and transformation. rather than approaching demolition as a purely technical or economic operation, the issue frames it as a critical architectural decision that shapes material strategies, spatial configurations, project processes, and forms of authorship. the contributions examine how architects negotiate between existing structures and contemporary norms, and how acts of removal can become instruments of adaptation, repair, and critical care.
